It's official. The new Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council website is now live, and damn near everything works!!
www.gscb.org
Damn nice site, if I do say so myself. Now I've got the numerous tweaks and updates that continue to trickle in. So far most everyone loves it. I've only gotten a couple of strange comments from the usual "wannabe art directors." Which I happily ignore…*snork*
It sucks being broke, but I'm taking full advantage of the opportunity to learn on the job here, and I've managed to pick up a lot. Doubt I'm ever going to sit down and learn to code, but I'm finding all sorts of cool ways around it. I'm also seeing a growing trend in programs out there that do it for you. Some hard-core coders are finding there's a great market out there in people like me who'd rather just get the damn thing working and looking good than sit in the corner crunching code like a geek. Many thanks to Eric Meyer and his www.WebAssist.com company–they'll definitely be seeing more of my cash.
I don't think I've ever worked so hard for so little money, but for some reason, this job seems worth it. One more website for my portfolio.

Did you know that good ol' Murphy is now a web designer? He's managed to put up a page on Myspace, and therefore, he's now qualified as a pro-fessh-unal web geek.
Hence the new law: Those of us who actually design websites professionally for a living get ignored in favor of the client's cousin's boyfriend's sister-in-law's husband, who "knows a lot about web stuff." This knowledgeable person gives the client the very same advice you gave them in the beginning, and now the client agrees and now wants you to follow their instructions.
This law also states that now the client has been blessed with this sage advice, they will now feel qualified to expand upon it, requesting that while you're at it, why not add some cute animated gif files, and obnoxious clip art?
At this point, this law allows you (the web professional who apparently doesn't know Jack Schitt about the web compared to the client's client's cousin's boyfriend's sister-in-law's husband) to sigh and bang your head on your desk repeatedly. This action may also be followed up with a dram of fine single-malt whiskey before re-implementing the design you presented the client in the first place, and doing your best to talk them out of the cutesy gif files.

Now here's a doll I've been thinking about working on since July, but just now got around to it. Sometimes I head down to the trailer and don't have a clue who I'm going to work on till they just jump up and bite me in the ass. I guess Meg got sick of waiting!!!
Meg's the product of a horrible costume I wore in the 1998 Footlighters production of Brigadoon. I always wished I could play the role again, in a costume of my own design. Alas, this show was to be one of my last theater performances. I haven't been on stage since 1999. Moving to the sticks and taking on a farm kind of took up all the free time I used to spend on stage.
At any rate, here's my version of Meg Brockie from Brigadoon. I didn't go for the self-portrait, just the costume I always wished I could have worn. See the previous Meg posts for photos from the show. More pix on the main website here.

And here's the really awful costume I wore in the show:
